на мой взгляд лучше анализировать в коде множество предопределенных макросов, которые устанавливаются согласно указанном таргету компиляции 

чтобы посмотреть глазами что "имеем с Гусева" при компиляции исходника нужно компиллеру пропихнуть кроме всего что пропихивалось указания препроцессору вывести в стандартный вывод саписок предефайнов опциями -dM -E -


вот мой практический пример - все как при обчной компиляции файлов проекта + просьба препроцессора вывести все что он "имеет"

выход компиляции в консоль, жирным пометил самое первое что дает представление что за процессор и позволяет написать эффективный исходник сразу для cortex-m0 и cortex-m7 учитывая наличие тех или иных аппаратных возможностей таргета, порядок байтов и прочее :
