Your calculation looks reasonable, but don't forget about interrupts. An interrupt can occur in any (unpredictable) moment, so you have to reserve extra bytes (depends on your ISR code). BTW, there is a simplified calculator (written in MS Excel) for the x86 platform. You can download it from the Micrium site.
